Theory:
Sylphs and Witches are connected classes, given to females. Sylphs are Actives (-) and Witches are Passives (+). While reading this, keep in mind what UU told Roxy about the classes:
UU: the +/- distinction can mean many things, bUt coUld be qUite roUghly sUmmed Up in this way: active classes exploit their aspect to benefit themselves, while passive classes allow their aspect to benefit others.
Reasoning:
-Jade and Kanaya talk and Kanaya describes the Sylph class as a more ‘magical’ type of witch. Rouges and Thieves are connected, as they are linked through thievery.
-Aranea tells Terezi she can heal her wounds, as a Sylph of Light. Sylphs are a healing class, like how Life is a healing aspect. Take what UU said to Dirk about Princes and Bards, and connect it to Sylphs. The active equivalent of Sylphs can be ”One who heals X, or causes healing through X”. As Aranea’s aspect is Light, she can heal Terezi’s eyesight because the X = Light.
-Feferi is able to heal the wounds of Wayward Vagabond as a Witch of Life (pictured). She can actively heal others at her own discretion, but is unlikely able to heal herself. The passives are able to benefit others more than themselves.
-In that regard, the Maid class is likely Active as well because Jane Crocker was able to do the Lifey Thing and save her dreamself through it without even thinking of it. We also see Aradia being able to use Time powers to save herself from Bec Noir, as a Maid of Time. Feferi was not able to do that, neither with her dream self or living self. This means Witches are more inclined to help others than help themselves. (On the flip side, consider Meenah as the Thief of Life - Thieves are Active in comparison)
-This is why Kanaya came back from the dead. Her Active Sylph class activated and healed her, saving her life. Becoming a Rainbow Drinker is a bit more curious as of right now, unless it was explained and I missed it. Though that isn’t the big point here, because Kanaya did come back to life ultimately without having a dreamself alive.
This is all incredibly fascinating stuff, and this whole thing is why I love this fandom so much, but on a personal level

“You’re gonna come with us,” Kaylee calls out to a young woman from her perch on Serenity’s ramp. Kaylee can tell she’s a little one, won’t be trouble at all. She ain’t even carrying two bags, like most people; she’s only got one big duffel slung across her back. Doesn’t want to take up space; Kaylee can respect that. (She can spot the unobtrusive ones from a mile away. Captain sometimes calls her his own personal Hunter-Gatherer. She always smiles at the truth of it.)
The young woman jumps, sending her long braid flying over her shoulder as she turns to face Kaylee. “W—whwhat?” she stammers out in a shaky voice.
Kaylee stands with her hands up, palms outward. “Don’t worry, sweetie, I ain’t gonna bitecha,” she says with her friendliest grin. She’s a shy one. Gonna be harder to draw her out. Be careful or you’ll scare the poor thing. As she walks down the ramp, she extends her hand toward the woman. Hell, up close she’s just a girl, still. Like me. ”I’m Kaylee, the mechanic for Serenity here.” The girl shakes her hand, firmly and quickly.
“Molly.” A small smile creeps into the corners of Molly’s lips.
Well that’s a good sign if there ever was one. “You lookin’ to travel, Molly?”
“Oh, you’d better believe it,” Molly grins, letting out a breathy, nervous laugh. “I ain’t never been anywhere but here. I got la… I quit my job yesterday.” She ducks her head at the slip, but Kaylee just raises her eyebrows and tilts her head to show she’s listening. Molly straightens a bit at the encouragement.
Hmm. Maybe you’re not so shy after all, little one.
“And, well, anyway, I’ve saved up a whole heap of money, and I wanted to see a bit more of the Verse, ya know?”
“Oh hell, do I!” Kaylee laughs delightedly. “I’d never been anywhere but my own backyard ‘til ‘bout three years ago. Then Serenity came and changed my whole life. She does that to ya.” Kaylee looks back fondly at her ship, half-reaching for the supports as if to pet it.
“I don’t take up a whole lotta space,” Molly says quickly, as though she has to sell herself for the place on Serenity she’s already got. “I’ll pay on time, every time, I promise.”
“Oh, honey, you belong with us, I’m sure of it,” Kaylee assures her.
Molly’s grin is as bright as Persephone’s sun.
