I don’t know if it rubbed off, but the sleeping spells would have frustrated an already difficult life enough that it might not have been necessary:
1) A kid on her own, having to do all sorts of hard, non-obvious things because no one else is there to do them; having to learn how to do those things with no one to teach her.
2) Living with a protector who, for all his power and his love for her, can’t talk or directly communicate with her, or easily understand the concepts she’s trying to convey.
3) With no adults around to tell her she’s being too hard on herself, or to encourage her, or comfort her, or to teach her the difference between healthy and unhealthy reactions.
4) All of this made more difficult by a tendency to fall asleep randomly, which she could only have seen as something broken and wrong in her.
Just think of all the times she’s had to fix the tower’s plumbing on her own, or repair her geothermal power station or the tower’s cooling and heating, or batten down her tower for an on-coming typhoon. Just think of all the times she’s smashed an important gauge, or blacked out before reopening a critical valve, or conked out and almost fell to her death maintaining the exterior and said to herself “stupid, stupid STUPID Jade! STUPID! How could you fall asleep you IDIOT! No, Stop it! Stop crying! STOP WHINING YOU BABY! Get up and fix it! Get up and fix it, Jade, or you’re going to die!” Because there was no one else to do it, and no one else to blame.

It’s a distinct possibility :? If it’s any consolation, my own reaction to this thought was “1) Ow; Knife to the heart :/ 2) But this would make a good fic though :) 3) I must share this inspiring pain with others :|”
A Song of Ice and Fire is not about kings. It’s about the people who surround, support and get stomped on by kings in quests for thrones and power. In older fantasy stories, the young kings are the heroes and lead characters, so George R.R. Martin subverted that by presenting his story through the perspective of everyone but the kings. The tale is now told by the rulers’ friends, mothers, children, wives, and the other people who usually become fringe characters. The only ruler with a point-of-view chapter is Daenerys, and she is not a Westerosi king.
Robert, Joffrey, Renly, Robb, Stannis, Balon- they don’t get to tell the story. They aren’t the heroes of the story. There may not be any, but if there are, it’s not them.
